Private Parties

Hollywood Curling would love to host your next party or corporate teambuilding event!

Curling is fun for all ages and ability levels.  It’s a real team sport, where strategy and good communication between team members can make the difference between winning and losing.  It’s also a unique activity that you and your friends or coworkers will always remember.

Even if you’ve never set foot on the ice before, we can teach you the basics and get your group throwing and sweeping rocks in under two hours.  We even have adaptive curling options for people with physical conditions that make it difficult to slide on the ice in the traditional way.

There are two ways to make this happen.

  • For groups of less than 20 people, the most economical option is to join us for one of our regularly scheduled learn to curl classes.  The price is just $25 per person ($20 for those under age 21), and for each 10 people you bring, you get one free.  If you have a group of 16 or more people, we can set aside one sheet of curling ice just for your group.  Let us know ahead of time, and we’ll make sure we have the space available for your group. All spots must be reserved in advance.

  • For larger groups, you can book an entire ice rink for your event.  We have relationships with two ice rinks.  Ice Station Valencia is a large facility with two full-size ice rinks and a warm room area where they serve food and beverages.  The Pasadena Ice Skating Center is a single-sheet facility in the center of Old Town Pasadena.  You can go to one of the many nearby bars and restaurants before you curl.  Please note that the Pasadena rink is a smaller facility in a high-demand area and typically has limited availability for private rentals.  Most weeks, we can rent their ice only on Saturday nights from 10:15 p.m. until midnight, or on weekday mornings from 9:15 a.m. to 11:00.
The price for a private event (option 2) starts at $1,000, and is dependant on the location and the number of people in your group.

Have a group larger than 50? Email us, and we'll help brainstorm the best way to host your event!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will we be on the ice?

We schedule our groups for two hours, just like our learn-to-curl classes.  We find this is the perfect amount of time to learn the basics, practice throwing stones, and play a mini-game (without being too cold!)

What should we wear?

Dress in warm layers.  WARM SOCKS, and shoes with good grip are a must (Sneakers work best, but avoid leather soles, or thin soles like Converse, Toms, etc...). Pants that have some stretch so you can lunge.  Gloves and hats are optional.  It can be cold on the ice, so dressing in layers is highly recommended.

How many people can I bring to my event?

We recommend no more than 50 people on the ice at one time, and our absolute limit is 64.  That’s the right number to make sure everyone has a safe and fun time curling.  We can accommodate larger groups by splitting up into smaller groups to take the ice separately over a longer period of time.

Where does the money for a private rental go?

Of the total fee, $700-$850 usually goes directly to the rink to pay for ice rental.  The rest goes to Hollywood Curling to pay for instruction and the use of equipment.  We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, and all of our instructors are volunteers.  We use funds raised from private events to build toward our goal of building the only dedicated-ice curling club in Southern California.

Do you know what you’re doing?

Yes, we’ve taught thousands of Californians to curl in the past 10 years.  We’d love to share the spirit of curling with you.

Am I too old or young for curling?

No.  Curling is a great activity for all ages.  It can be difficult, however, to hold an event with both young children and adults.  If you’d like to bring any kids under age 10, please let us know and we can try to arrange a session for them on a smaller ice rink.

What should I wear?  Do I need my own equipment?

We provide all the equipment you’ll need, including curling stones, brooms, sliders, and grippers to put on the bottom of your feet when you’re on the ice.  You wear shoes when curling, not ice skates, so you don’t have to know how to skate at all.  We recommend that you dress in layers, because you’ll warm up once you start sweeping on the ice.  We also recommend wearing sweatpants or other stretchy pants that will allow you to move freely, and comfortable athletic shoes.

Can I have my event at a different ice rink other than the ones you listed?

No promises, but if you can find a rink that will rent you the ice for two hours, we’ll consider it.  Please note that due to the difficulty in transporting stones and equipment to new locations, we’ll need to charge a substantial extra fee for any events not held at our home ice rinks.
